NOTE: You will need your BPA Member ID to work on your online Torch Awards résumeé. Your advisor has access to this information through the membership registration system.

The Torch Awards program has been streamlined and updated. The process is 100% web-based for the 2008-2009 school year.

Things to know:

The same personal challenges, goal-setting and recognition opportunities of the Torch Awards have not changed. However, instead of a paper résumé, you will now keep track of and submit your activities via an online system.

Note: Any points previously earned will still be issued for credit. When inputting your online resumé, add in activities from the previous year and note "LAST YEAR" in your activity description.

What you'll need:

Your first priority should be downloading and reviewing The Torch Awards Handbook for 2008-09. Then, you can log on and start updating your ONLINE Torch Awards résumé. Your USER NAME is your BPA Member ID (your advisor has access to this through the membership registration system). Your PASSWORD, if not provided to you by your advisor, can be set by clicking here.

What advisors can do:

Advisors should log on using their normal BPA user name and password at this address (be sure to choose "I am a local advisor.". Then can then search for their students and review/update the student's resume.

Why Torch Awards?

Why should you participate in the Torch Awards Program? This is your opportunity for personal recognition. You set your own achievement goal-and you reap the rewards! It’s as simple as that. It doesn’t matter whether anyone else in your chapter participates. This is an individual recognition program.

Once you have decided to participate, you’ll find a chain reaction takes place. You’ll find yourself more involved in Business Professionals of America, and you’ll gain more benefits from your participation. Likewise, if a number of chapter members participate, more chapter activities will be needed, the chapter will be more active, and all chapter members will benefit.

Managing the Torch Awards Program was established as a responsibility of the vice president (at any level). However, it is not the responsibility of the local vice president or the chapter advisor to do your work. It’s up to you to insure that all guidelines are followed exactly: all activities are listed under the proper code, that you actually accomplish the activities, that entries in your on-line submission are worded properly, and that you meet all specified deadlines.

Where Do You Begin?

First, download and read the Torch Awards Program Rules in the Torch Award Handbook.   A hard copy can be purchased from the BPA Marketplace.

Second, set your achievement goal. Determine the level of achievement you wish to receive. Then develop your own plan of activities which will result in the required number of points. Look at each code division. For example, if you want to achieve the Ambassador Award, decide where you can get 70 points; then go on the next division and repeat the procedure.

Have your local vice president and advisor approve your plan of activities. They may be able to suggest suitable activities, as well.
